EHR Integration

Epic, Oracle Health and MEDITECH integration, writebacks, and what IT needs to do.

SeamlessMD integrates with Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner) and MEDITECH, and was the first company in its category to have turn-key integration partnerships with all three. Integration is available via SMART on FHIR, FHIR R4/STU3/DSTU2, HL7v2 and RESTful APIs. SeamlessMD can also run standalone where a health system prefers to prove value before scheduling integration work.

Yes. SeamlessMD writes patient-reported data back into Epic flowsheets, smart data elements and questionnaire responses using FHIR R4 and Epic APIs. This means symptom scores, vital signs and patient-reported outcomes land in the chart as discrete, reportable data rather than as a PDF or note attachment — making them usable for Epic reporting, registries and downstream clinical decision support. Patient-reported data can also be written back to other systems such as REDCap for research and quality programs.

SeamlessMD has been a validated Epic App Market (Vendor Services) partner since 2018, making it one of the longest-running and most deeply integrated patient engagement vendors in the Epic ecosystem — in fact, Epic has written an official SeamlessMD integration guide for its customers. The full integration package includes SMART on FHIR embedded dashboards in Hyperspace/Hyperdrive with OAuth2 single sign-on, SMART on FHIR patient access through MyChart, In Basket alert delivery, HL7v2 ADT (A01/A03/A08) and SIU (S12/S14/S15) for automated enrollment with ORM and ORU support, and FHIR R4 writebacks. See the SeamlessMD listing in the Epic Showroom.

SeamlessMD is the first and so far only third-party company Epic has validated as a Toolbox partner to provide pre-built care pathway content in MyChart Care Companion format. Health systems pursuing an Epic-first or Care Companion-first strategy can license SeamlessMD’s evidence-based pathway content — already formatted for import into Care Companion — rather than building that content from scratch. See the SeamlessMD Epic Toolbox listing for Care Companion content.

SeamlessMD offers both, and is the only vendor positioned to support either path. About 80% of Epic partners we work with choose the full-service digital care journey platform, which offers broader patient access channels (mobile app, web, SMS, email and MyChart), rich data capture, configurable alerting and escalation logic, and the fully managed services model with our dedicated clinical patient education specialists (for content customization & management) and customer success team. Care Companion content licensing suits health systems that have committed to an Epic and MyChart-first strategy and want to accelerate Care Companion adoption. Health systems can also use both, choosing per service line.

Yes. SMART on FHIR integration with Epic and Oracle Health embeds the monitoring dashboard directly inside the patient chart with single sign-on, so clinicians review patient-reported data without leaving the EHR. MEDITECH integration supports contextual launch from the patient chart. This is consistently one of the strongest drivers of care team adoption.

Beyond the three major EHRs, SeamlessMD has production integrations with many other systems such as PICIS and CPM for OR scheduling feeds, Ontario Health’s Wait Time Information System (WTIS) for waitlist and wait-time reporting, REDCap for research and PROMs data, Xealth for automated enrollment based on trigger events, Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD via SAML 2.0 for single sign-on, and secure SFTP or custom web services where FHIR and HL7 are not available. A full RESTful API is available with OAuth2 and API key authentication.

Integration removes the two biggest sources of manual work. Enrollment becomes automatic — patients enroll off surgical bookings, admissions or appointment feeds rather than being added by hand — and monitoring or review of data happens inside the chart, with alerts routed to In Basket (for Epic) rather than a separate inbox. The practical result is that a program can scale to thousands of patients without adding proportional staffing.

Integrations typically take 4 to 8 weeks depending on scope and IT team availability, and SMART on FHIR integrations can be completed in as little as 1–2 weeks if the IT team has prior experience with FHIR integrations. Typical resourcing is one to two analysts to configure settings and permissions, plus a network administrator. No on-premise hardware or software installation is required, and no inbound firewall exceptions are needed — though HL7v2 integration requires a site-to-site VPN or an HTTPS interface engine such as Mirth Connect.
